Tool Aprons

An apron is an article of dress made of cloth, leather, or other material. It is worn on the fore part of the body. It helps to keep the clothes clean, it protects the wearer and his clothes from injury. It is commonly tied at the waist by strings, and a band that goes around the neck holds it in place.

An apron is commonly used as a part of uniform by several working categories. Being highly useful accessories, aprons can be commonly found in homes. Used by the homemaker it protects dresses from possible spills, stains, splashes etc. Ingenious homemakers who are skilled in the art of sewing sew on pockets of the right size at easy to reach places, in their aprons. These pockets are meant to hold any implement or item that they use often. The contents may vary but the concept is here to stay. The first "tool apron" was born at home.

In restaurant kitchens, aprons used by chefs and other workers can be classified as "tool aprons." Having their choice of implements handy, increases efficiency levels in such places. These are but a light variety of tool aprons made of sturdier cloth than aprons used at home. Heavy duty tool aprons are used by professionals like carpenters and gardners. These people work continually with tools and also need to move around a lot. It thus makes practical sense to carry tools and accessories around. A carpenter's apron pockets may hold tools like hammers, tape measure, nails and the like. A gardner may stock small clippers, packets of seeds and so on in his apron pockets. Tool aprons are used by some industrial workers too. Anywhere a job entails the use of tools and moving around, a tool apron comes in handy.

The materials used to make these tool aprons may depend on personal choice. Sturdy canvas with reinforced stitches is preferable for holding tools. Ready made aprons are available widely in the market, but may not suit individual needs. For increased efficiency levels comfort is very essential. A heavy duty apron should not be an impediment to moving around freely. While most aprons for domestic uses come with a neck strap, crisscross straps would be more suitable for tool aprons. This would ensure that the back takes the weight of all that the apron's pockets hold.

Correct pocket placement is of utmost importance as incorrect placement would hamper rather than help. Small bib pockets can also be considered for holding delicate items like writing instruments, small expensive tools and the like.
